Big Wheel History

The Big Wheel was created by Ray Lohr for Marx in 1969. Dozens of models later, the Big Wheel and its cousins remain the favorite mode of transportation for kids across America.

 

Big Wheel Timeline:

  • 1969 - Louis Marx introduces the Big Wheel at the New York World's Fair
  • 1972 - Carolina Enterprises introduces the Hot Cycle
  • 1972 - The Marx company is sold to Quaker Oats
  • 1972 - Marx introduces the Green Machine
  • 1975 - Marx and Carolina Enterprises merge and sell the rights to Empire
  • 1985 - Empire sells design to Playskool (builds the Power Cycle)
  • 1997 - Playskool stops production
  • 2001 - Empire stops production
  • 2003 - Alpha International reintroduces the Big Wheel
  • 2007 - Gamma2 becomes manufacturer of the Big Wheel

Power Cycle? Yes, Power Cycle. That's what Playskool branded their version of the Big Wheel. I dig it. I can't decide if I like it better than the Dukes of Hazard version.
